St Patrick’s Day Lesson Plans for Kindergarten. We love the book, Jaime O’Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie DePaola!
Reading Comprehension/Close Reading
We spent the week working on this fun book by Tomie DePaola.
In addition to using this book as our close reading text, look how fantastic the illustrations work for writers workshop! Students can notice the character’s expressions!
Clearly, we can see how annoyed Mr. O’Rourke is and how Mr. O’Rourke seems to care little about her anger! As writers, we can borrow this technique in our own writing!
Here are few more gems from the book.
Retelling the Text
Then the students create their own retelling strip.
Here are some precious opinion writing pieces that were sent to us by a teacher. (Insert heart eyes)
Sometimes, with a close read, it is nice to have a video to watch towards the end of the week. This provides another example and model of fluent reading.
Music Videos for March
Here are the two sets of music videos for the month of March.
Differentiated Cube Activities
My students love these differentiated cubes. Here are few of the fun activities for March.
You can find the CUBES HERE.

Sometimes you need a quick activity, but don’t have time to prep them. Here are few centers that are engaging, but you can just print and go! You can see this set HERE.
Here is the craft from our Jaime O’Rourke Guiding Readers set.
And I love this crayon resist art activity. You can read more about it HERE.
