Fluency Practice Freebie

April 11 Deedee 1 min read
It is no secret that we love to sing and work in our poetry notebooks.
Here are a few pages from our interactive poetry notebooks for this week.

On Friday we do the “Poetry Challenge.”  This is when the students demonstrate their individual fluency.  I call them up one-by-one and they sing their poem.  This week I made a sticker for them to add to their notebook.  They were so excited!
Sometimes I have to add a little motivator.
Everyone of my students earned a piece of gum today… they were motivated! This tub was great and easy.
If you want to challenge your students with fluency, you can grab these labels/stickers.  I printed them on Avery 8160 labels. You can download them from my Google Drive by clicking on the image below.

Here is a little video from this morning while we were practicing it.

You can find the interactive notebooks here.
The poem “Stung” can be found in April’s Poetry Unit or it is included in the bundle.
Happy Friday!

Love the notebooks! I definitely see a tub of gum like that in the survival plans for the rest of the year! Thanks for sharing!!!

I love the gum motivator! I also love the fluency practice. That is what so many of mine are needing now. And maybe me- I had a dream last night (about Superman for some bizarrrrrre reason) but the whole dream was like I was reading a Level D book word by word with no fluency. Oh my gosh, do you think I am a little over obsessed with fluency? And maybe I really need this Spring Break to do some grown-up things? 🙂
