Guided Reading Lesson Plans
Small-group guided reading is such a critical time during the busy school day. This is the time we get to truly work closely with our students and provide that extra support. I always loved my guided reading time! I felt like I could do so much in just 20 minutes! (Ok, sometimes 15 minutes… because we all have those days where getting kids settled at centers is like herding cats! Mercy!) I quickly discovered the more prepared I was, the better my groups went! So, low and behold guided reading lesson plans!
These lesson plans include levels AA through J. Eleven levels of books! With each level, you get the 2-day lesson plan, printable books (color and black/white), digital version of the book, running record, word work, and response to text activities.
How cool is it that all of your students are reading the “same” book? Each level of The Gingerbread Man contains similar story elements with increasing text complexity.
Word Work
After reading, use the printable resources to practice literacy skills such as beginning sounds, blends, digraphs, and vowel families.
A few more examples.
Students use mixed-up sentences as a guide for responding to writing on day 2 of your guided reading lesson.
Digital Books
I mentioned earlier that each level comes in a digital format. We love this option! And of course, it’s less prep for you! Once you add the books on a device, you can use them again and again with no wear and tear!
