Are you wondering how to follow a podcast? It is simple! Learn all about it here and check out some of my favorite educational podcasts!
Last August, Adam Peterson and I started The Classroom Collaborative Podcast. We wanted to come together and provide inspiration and guidance for all of the amazing classroom teachers out there! I only started really listening to podcasts just about a year and a half ago. I quickly fell in love and now find myself listening all the time.
How to Follow a Podcast
Listening to podcasts is becoming quite a common experience! There are a plethora of podcasts out there just waiting to be heard. With so many different categories, you are sure to find something that interests you. However, if you are not currently following a podcast, the idea of doing so may overwhelm you. Well, I am here to tell you to jump right in – it is easy! Let me walk you through and show you where to begin by answering a few questions.
How and where do I listen?
One of the best things about a podcast is that you can listen to it anywhere! Driving in your car, waiting in the airport, at the gym… the list goes on and on. There are various ways to listen to a podcast. The most convenient way is with a smartphone. If you are an Apple user, your iPhone comes loaded with Apple Podcasts. For Android devices, you can download Google Podcasts from Google Play. There are other apps with awesome podcast directories that can easily be downloaded. For example, Pocket Casts, Spotify, TuneIn, iTunes, etc.
If you don’t like the idea of listening on your cell phone, podcasts are also available online through your computer. Most of them offer a play function from the website or blog. You can also listen through a smart speaker, such as Google Home or Amazon Echo. It will take a little setup through the app to keep track of your episodes.
How do I find a Podcast?
First, open your podcast player. I am going to show images using Apple Podcast. If you know the name of a specific podcast you want to listen to then you can simply type it in the search bar.
If not, you will want to search through categories. If you click the search button on the bottom right, you can type in a keyword and select shows that might interest you. You can also browse through a collection of shows.
Should I subscribe?
Yes! Subscribing to a podcast that you enjoy is the best way to keep track of the already listened episodes and new arrivals. When you subscribe you never miss anything. After you’ve found a podcast that you want to consistently listen to, simply click the subscribe button. Once that’s done, all of the episodes will be available in your library. I love being able to get into my car and immediately pick up where I left off.
A Few of My Favorites…
Here are a few podcasts that I am super into right now. Feel free to check them out!
I am drinking this one through a firehose right now! Her sessions on reading instruction have me thinking!
She has some really great episodes about various education topics.
Jennifer Gonzales is SMART. She has a more upper-grade audience, but some of her episodes resonate with primary teachers, too! I especially love this one: Are you Sabotaging your Classroom Management?
I hope you are ready to jump into the podcast world. If you are interested in listening and gathering some ideas for your classroom, check out our podcast on my blog:
