You will notice that he does not have letter/sound association yet. He only knows a few sounds, so why would I expect him to have them in his writing? However, this guy knows that letters make up words. So he is now adding a string of letters. If you sat by his side as he wrote these letters, you would see him stretching out the words and going through the motions. This is very encouraging! As soon as he has letter/sound association, he will have the behaviors in place to apply them correctly.
What else can he do? He can compose a coherent message in a sequential order!
