The Little Red Hen is one of our favorite traditional stories. Here are lesson plans for your Little Red Hen week (or weeks). Reading, writing, math, crafts, and science lessons make this easy for teachers and fun for your students. I even whipped up a little FREE file for you too!
The books!
So many Little Red Hen Books! Here are the three that are featured in our Little Red Hen Unit!
The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone.
The Little Red Hen by Lucinda McQueen
The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza) by Philamon Sturgess
Here are a few other versions that were recommended!
Reading Comprehension
Deanna Jump and I have created a Guiding Readers unit that focuses on these three stories. Each book has a set of questions.
This cute Little Red Hen craft is not just a pretty face…
She keeps the three retell strips in her apron!
How-To Make a Pizza Writing
We love the Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza… so we included a little how-to writing.
I found this cute tutorial on how to make chef hats! You can read more about how to make them on Andersruff.
Science, Math, and Literacy Activities Too!
We have included math activities that are easy to prep!
And math centers that are differentiated (so there is a kindergarten and 1st grade version).
The same is true for these literacy centers. They are also differentiated. (Kindergarten: Beginning Sounds, First Grade: CVC words).

Just amazing lesson plans for the “Little Red Hen week”. It is a brilliant idea to have fun with toddlers and they will learn something valuable at very same time. If we talk about free stuff for kids then http://www.kidsfront.com/coloring-books.html is also wonderful resource.
