Sheila Rae the Brave by Kevin Henkes is a beloved book in my classroom! Check out my Sheila Rae lesson plans!
Close Reading/Comprehension
Sheila Rae, the Brave is a great book to use for close reading. My students loved hearing it again and again! This is a book from the June Guiding Readers set, but it can easily fit into any month.
Just like all of Kevin Henkes books, the illustrations are PRICELESS!
This story lends itself well to recalling text details, but many of the details are not sequentially linked. We decided to sort events by things that were in the story or not in the story. You can find these text detail cards HERE.
The skills covered in this book are:
- predictions
- text details
- character analysis
- making connections
- opinion writing

Hi! I am really interested in the guided drawing for Sheila Ray but I do not need the rest of the packet. Is there anyway to get just this piece!? Please let me know 😉 Thank you!!
I’m sorry, we don’t have it listed on its own.
