Using playdough mats to strengthen fine motor skills during math and literacy centers is the special sauce for kindergarten students. These play dough task cards have it al! Adding play dough activities to your math and literacy centers is a great way to address both skills and fine motor strengthening.

HERE ARE THE PLAYDOUGH MAT CENTER ACTIVITIES AND TASK CARDSYOU WILL FIND IN THIS FILE:

Letters playdough mat

  • Each letter of the alphabet has enlarged letters that students will use to form the dough in the shape of the letter.
  • The path of motion is included so students can reinforce their muscle memory as they form the letters.
  • There is also a section so students can practice tracing, then writing the letters.
  • Finally, there are images that students will use to stamp the beginning sound. Then, trace the word.

Numbers to 30 dough mats

  • Each number (0-30) has enlarged numerals that students will use to form the dough in the shape of that number.
  • The path of motion for each numeral is included so students can reinforce their muscle memory as they form the numbers.
  • There is also a section so students can practice tracing, then writing the numbers.
  • Students will also complete a ten frame (or twenty frames, or thirty frames) in dough to represent that number.
  • Finally, there is a small section where students will place objects in a setting (ie 11 fish in the ocean)

Sight word playdough mats (see list of high-frequency words below)

  • 70 high-frequency words are included
  • Each words has enlarged letters that students will use to form the dough in the shape of each letter in that word.
  • Students will stamp the word in dough.
  • Then students will practice tracing the word, then writing the word.

Addition math playdough mats

  • In this interactive section, students will spin the spinner to create an equation.
  • Then students will solve and prove their answer by using dough as a manipulative.
  • Finally, students will write the equation and sum.

Subtraction math playdough mats

  • This is also an interactive section where students will spin the spinner to create the problem
  • Then students will solve and prove their answer by using dough as a manipulative.
  • Finally, students will write the problem and solution.

2D/3D Shapes playdough mats

  • Dough mats for 2D shapes include: triangle, square, circle, hexagon, rectangle, oval, rhombus, and trapezoid
  • Dough mat task cards for 3D shapes include: cube, triangular prism, rectangular prism, pyramid, cone, cylinder, and sphere
