WHY ARE BRAIN BREAKS IMPORTANT?

Providing students with short brain break activities during their work time has been shown to have real benefits. Brain breaks reduce stress, frustration, and stress. Brain breaks can also help kids focus and be more productive. Additionally, they help kids learn to self-regulate. In other words, brain breaks are exercises designed to quiet the mind.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU PROVIDE A BRAIN BREAK?

Research tells us that the chemicals that deliver messages to the brain deplete after about 10 minutes (a bit less for even younger students.) These messages are needed to keep calmfocus attention, and build new memory.

After 10 minutes these messages get EXHAUSTED when students are asked to stay focused on the same task (attentive listening, skill drill). That is when brain break activities are needed.

This set of brain break activities is preloaded to Google Slides! This makes it easy to use if you are teaching virtually or if you want to take some learning outside. Students can practice with a laptop or iPad.
