School to Home Connection

Description

Teachers and parents are partners in education. This parent involvement resource will help strengthen that connection.

This unit includes the following parent involvement activities:

• Mystery Reader: Parents can volunteer to become a mystery reader in their child’s classroom. This activity includes a parent volunteer letter, parent notification letter, as well as, student response pages for the Mystery Reader.
• Visiting Scientists: Parents can volunteer to become a visiting scientists in the classroom. This activity includes a parent volunteer letter, parent notification letter, as well as, student science experiment response pages.
• Student Learning Support at Home: As a teacher, you know what students need, but not all parents are certain how to support their child in their learning. This set of activities include a parent explanation letter, as well as, 24 task activities that are fun and engaging. These tasks support student learning in phonemic awareness, letter identification, sound identification, numeral identification, and sight word learning.
• The Estimation Jar: This activity invites students to fill the estimation jar with items to bring back to school. Their are two versions of the parent letter (one with snack options and one without). The class will then estimate the number of items. Then, as a class, you will count those items and document them on ten frames. Finally, you will examine place value by recording the 10’s and 1’s.
