Description
These kindergarten and first grade print and go sub plans will make your life easier! Sick days are no fun and preparing for a substitute before a sick day is stressful. Unexpected absences happen, so it is a good idea to plan ahead. Create a sub tub or substitute binder at the beginning of the year BEFORE you need it. That way you will have meaningful activities to leave for your guest teacher and you will have the peace of mind to know your students are learning and not just stuck with busy work or worksheets. If you want to find a link to my free sub binder, you will find it towards the end of this description.
I suggest setting up your emergency sub folder BEFORE you find yourself in an emergency. Place the binder in a place that is easy to find. Be sure to have a set of sub plans already in the binder so they are ready to go. No more last minute panic!
This set of lesson plans is for kindergarten or first grade students and they accompany the book: Alma and How She Got Her Name
These emergency substitute plans could not be easier. They are just print and go with no-prep activities. You can even email these sub plans to your school. SIMPLE! These emergency plans offer differentiated reading and math activities that will cover more than one grade level. Each set of emergency sub plans contains enough activities to get you through multiple days.
You could also send these home as a printable option for distance learning, snow days, or extended absences. WHEW! I have included QR codes for students that explain the activity! ANOTHER WHEW!
Here is a quick peek at the printable and digital formats that are included in these full days of plans:
- PDF format for both kindergarten and first grade. They include recorded directions via a QR code.
- Seesaw Kindergarten Preloaded Links
- Seesaw First Grade Preloaded Links
- Image files so you can build the activities on other digital platforms.
- Google Slides Ready Powerpoint Presentations
These activities accompany the book Alma and How She Got Her Name. A QR code will take the students to a recording of the book on YouTube.
I have made the parent pack its own PDF so you don’t need to scramble to send it out. There is NO PREP for you! I have also included image files in the event you need to upload those to student devices.

Other ways to use this set of emergency plans:
- Snow Days or Inclement Weather – Are you required to teach online during snow days? These are an easy option!
- Distance Learning – Do you have a student who is going on vacation or with an extended illness, but needs to have lesson plans assigned to them? These are so easy and you can rest easy that they will still be learning important grade level skills.
- Family emergencies – I’ve had parents email me to explain that they have had a family emergency and they would like to have a set of activities that their young child can take with them. Having access to a digital version of these files means you can pull these activities together with little time needed. You can send the week’s worth of lessons to the caregiver without spending time printing and copying.
- Summer School – Are you teaching summer school? These would also work perfectly for summer school.
