This bundle of fun Winter, Christmas, and snowman center rotations provide first grade students with an opportunity to practice math skills and literacy skills through independent work.
There are 2 versions of each center activity. The center cards can be printed with color ink or there is a black ink-only option, as well. There are a variety of activities to meet the needs of your students throughout the school year.
DECEMBER FIRST GRADE CENTERS
Bright Beginning Blends – Students practice beginning l, r, & s blends.
Elf Endings – Students say the words and listen for the ending sounds.
Twinkling Vowel Teams– A great activity for a pocket chart center! Students sort pictures by the vowel team (ai, ee, oa)
Santa’s Magic Sounds– Students say the word and think about how it is spelled. Students will color in the correct spelling of each word.
Mrs. Claus’ Compound Words– Students match two words together to make a compound word.
Sentences for December– There are 4 weeks worth of sentence work! Students read the sentence and identify the correct picture. Then, they practice writing the sentence on their response sheet.
Reindeer Rhymes – Students match the rhyming words.
Santa’s Syllables – Students determine the number of syllables in each picture.
Adding Base 10 – Students count and add the base ten blocks
Counting On – Starting from a given number, students count on using the Christmas-themed objects.
Greater or Less Than – Students use symbols to compare numbers.
Christmas Toy Addition – Students count the pictures to create and solve addition equations within 20.
12 Days of Christmas Subtraction – A fun Christmas center to practice subtraction within 20.
It’s Time for Cookies – Students practice telling and writing time in hours and half-hours.
Tally Marks – Students count the tally marks on cards and write the number.
Fact Families – Students are given 3 numbers and they write the four facts to make a fact family.
PREDICTABLE CENTER ACTIVITIES
These predictable first grade centers are ideal for any classroom because the activities do not have to be retaught month-after-month. The students can apply their new knowledge to the same activities, with different themes each month.
Each first grade center has a recording sheet that can be used for tracking student progress during these independent activities.
