JANUARY FIRST GRADE WINTER CENTERS
LITERACY CENTERS
Frosty’s Magic Sounds– Students say the word and think about how it is spelled. Students will color in the correct spelling of each word.
Snowy Sight Words– Students will unscramble the letters to build the sight word. Students will write the sight word and use one sight word in a sentence.
Cocoa Compound Words– Students match two words together to make a compound word.
Icy Endings– Students practice using ending l, r & s blends. Students will write the word and draw a picture to match.
Skiing Through Vowel Teams– A great activity for a pocket chart center! Students sort pictures by the vowel team (ui,ue,oe).
Beary Cold Digraphs– Students will say the word and listen for the missing digraph sound. Students will color the correct digraph to complete the word.
Sentences for January – There are 4 weeks worth of sentence work! Students read the sentence and identify the correct picture. Then, they practice writing the sentence on their response sheet.
Winter Syllables – Students determine the number of syllables in each picture.
MATH CENTERS
Winter Addition– Students count the pictures to create and solve the addition equations within 20.
Fact Families– Students are given 3 numbers and they write the four facts to make a fact family.
Adding Up Marshmallows– Students will count the marshmallows in each mug and solve an addition equation to match.
Number Bonds– Students will fill in the missing number to make the number bond true.
Don’t Forget Your Mittens Count On– Starting from a given number, students count on using the mittens.
Chilly Troll Tally Marks – Students count the tally marks on cards and write the number.
Making 40– Students will count the ten frames and add more snowballs to make 40.
Greater or Less Than – Students use symbols to compare numbers.
