Digital morning meeting ideas for kindergarten and 1st grade. Monthly calendar and daily activities to use in the classroom or for distance learning.
Digital Morning Meeting
Your morning meeting is the first step to setting up your day for success. It is the time to come together as a class and share with each other. Morning meetings can look and sound differently, depending on the classroom. This is often the time when you complete the calendar, talk about the weather, and have some great discussions with your students.
Morning meetings typically happen within the walls of your classroom. However, this coming year may look a little different for you. Perhaps your school is implementing distance learning from home or some sort of a hybrid option. Or, maybe you are starting the school year the same as always! Either way, this digital morning meeting resource may be just what you need to start your day!
Each month, there is a new calendar and corresponding daily activities. There are enough activities to do something different every day. The very first slide will always be the calendar. This is where you add the date, the day of the week, the weather, and decide which activity you would like your students to complete. If you look below, you can see that I have added icons for the first week. When clicked, each of those icons will take you to another slide.
After adding the weather for the current day, you can add to the weather graph. You simply click a color at the bottom and drag it to the correct spot on your chart.
Mad Lib Activity
Help your students create fun stories with these Mad Lib activities.
The magnifying glass icon will lead you to a fun fact. In August, students learn about buses, apples, the month of August, and germs. After reading the fun facts, extend the learning with a discussion. Then, you can have students respond in writing or draw a picture.
Picture of the Day
This is one of my favorite activities and allows students to practice their inferring skills.
What Would You Do?
Have a great conversation with your students using these social-emotional questions.
Question of the Day
This is where the kindergarten and first-grade morning meeting activities differ. The skills are based upon the grade level and time of year.
I Have an Opinion
This is the last type of activity. Students form an opinion and explain their thinking.
So… How Can You Use This Resource?
In the classroom, you can easily display the PowerPoint for students to see. If you are distance teaching, you could show the PowerPoint through Zoom or another similar online platform. We are super excited about this digital morning meeting resource and hope you enjoy it, too!
