Kindergarten Lesson Plans Week 8 featuring ideas for How Do Apples Grow!
How Does an Apple Grow Reading Lessons
I love this book because it has a lot of information about apples and the illustrations are beautiful!
However, a word to the wise. There are discussions in this book about male parts and female parts. 😳 So you may want to skim and scan over these sections…or you may want to brace yourself for a whole different conversation.
We use this book as part of our Engaging Readers units. We have been so lucky to receive photos from other classrooms too! Here is an anchor chart that was sent to us from our unit. You can see this teacher also included the apple life cycle activity!
We also have a sentence study to go along with this book. Kindergarten students will notice concepts about print with this activity. First-grade students will work on grammar skills.

Here are a few other books that make the rounds during apple week!
Johnny Appleseed Poem
This is a fun poem that students work on all week to build fluency!
Here is the recorded video that was shared with me by Mrs. Harrison’s kindergarten students. LOVE!

Apple Science, Math, and More
Students can also explore the effects of Oxidation on apples.
These can be found: Science, Math, and More Aug/Sept Set 2
Math Center Activities
Math centers are a way for me to keep the learning going all year long. This particular series is SUPER predictable. The math centers vary in theme, but most of the activities are the same. In this way, you only need to teach them a few times at the beginning of the year. Then students continue to practice the skills month after month after month. The change in theme keep the kiddos engaged. You can find a free ABC bump game at the bottom of this blog post.
All of these activities and more can be found: Kindergarten Math Centers | Apples
