Sentence Writing Made Simple (AND FUN)!

April 8 Deedee 2 min read
In kindergarten, I am always looking for a way to make sentence writing simple!
BUT… we also need to make sentence writing FUN!
In kindergarten it's important to make sentence writing simple, but also fun! Here's how you can use kindergarten appropriate student approved activities to foster great sentence writing.
Naturally, we do direct sentence writing instruction through interactive writing.  You can read more about how I incorporate interactive writing with our reading units HERE.
We also do direct sentence writing instruction during our small group guided reading.

Deanna Jump and I are in the process of creating Guiding Reading Leveled Texts that will incorporate sentence writing.  You can see Level A HERE.
(We do not plan to bundle them until the units are complete, but you can get a 25% discount by purchasing them during the first week.  This will exceed the 20% bundle discount… so hurry.)
So beyond direct sentence writing instruction, we need fun simple activities that are fun and predictable.   This predictable sentence station is a year long learning center.
Students build simple sentences.
Then write them!  You can see each of these predictable sentence units by clicking HERE.
We also always have sentence writing in our monthly Math and Literacy units.  You can see those HERE.
Students match the picture with the sentence.  They write it!
Every morning, our morning work includes sentence work.  Because I have so many different themes to choose from, we always have something related to what we are studying!
You can see the various themes by clicking HERE.
And I have updated my Silly Sentence unit. (If you have previously purchased it, you can get the update for FREE by going to “My Purchases.”
Suffice to say, this sentence writing unit has been a HIT!
Here is a video of some students using this sentence station.  I love how they crack up at the end.

See?  Sentence writing does not have to be boring or painful.
Happy sentence writing!
