Weather Science Activities for Kindergarten and FIrst Grade
Weather and climate is probably a kindergarten standard for most of us. There are so many fun weather science activities to do with your kindergarten and first grade students. Plus, literacy ideas to incorporate too!
Tornados, floods, hurricanes, and lightning! Students learn all about this wild weather with an interactive nonfiction book. This weather book is digital and can used in both Seesaw and Google Slides.


Poetry is a fun way to incorporate all sorts of themes in your classroom. Rain Clouds is a poem that is perfect for a shared reading or poetry station. You can print out the poem strips and place them in a pocket chart or provide the printable book for your students.
Plus, there are word work activities, too!



These read, trace, glue, & draw sentences are perfect to incorporate as morning work or as a quick activity to squeeze in during the day.
National Geographic Kids has some great nonfiction books. Of course, there is one on weather which I used to make some great weather science activities for kindergarten and first grade. Although this makes a great listening center, it can also be done during whole-group. Students can access a reading of the book using the QR code or you can pull it up on your board for the whole class.

After listening to the book, students complete an independent response sheet.
These weather-related riddles are a fun way to get students excited about common weather words.
STEM activities are always a hit in the classroom. For this STEM activity, students are challenged to create something that moves with the wind.
This activity is actually tied to the traditional tale, Tortoise and the Hare. It was super fun to add it in during our weather study.
