Students setting their own writing goals is an important part of writers workshop. A few weeks ago, I talked about having my students selecting their own writing goals.  I quickly made this chart.

Well… I made one that you all can use.  I put random names down since I did this at home tonight.  Tomorrow I will have my kiddos revisit their goals and perhaps select new ones.

Here is an example or a unit/genre specific goal chart.  This was from early in the year.  Each of these unit specific goal charts is included in our writing units.  You can see those units HERE.

Here is what one of my sweeties showed me today.   She completed this over a few days of writing time and I did not confer with her on this piece.  I would say this is a “raw” piece… it did not go through the revision process.  We talked about “How-To” texts awhile back, but I do not limit the genre in which students write, nor do I tell them what to write about.  So writing a “How-to” is just fine with me!

UPDATE:   We have created detailed goal charts that align with unit specific rubrics (both for Kindergarten and First Grade).

You can find them in each of our new updated Writer’s Workshop units.
