Duck for President activities for kindergarten with Free President’s Day Math Game!
Duck for President Activities #1: Read Aloud
Duck for President is such a fun book to read around President’s Day!
We use this book as one of our Engaging Readers Texts! Here is a break down of the reading comprehension activities!
Interactive Writing #2
Students explore the problems and solutions that occur in Duck for President. It is a great chance to work on interactive writing. Students work together to compose the response. I love the response, “Being in charge is hard..!”
Responding to Literature #3
Here are some of the students’ responses too.
Students also worked on making connections. Since the characters in Duck for President had to do chores, there were some connections made for sure!
Duck for President Activities #4: Craft
We always enjoy a craft or two when it comes to our read aloud.
When we can add our sentence for the sentence study, the craft also becomes purposeful.
There are days when I feel like this little guy in the upper left-hand corner!

Duck for President Activities #5: YouTube Video
Awnie’s House is my favorite place to go to find a read aloud on YouTube. She has a whole set of Engaging Readers videos. Naturally, we teach the reading comprehension lessons… we must have a book. However, students benefit from hearing another example of reading fluency. These videos are the best.
Duck for President: Other Presidential Centers!
On the theme of presidents, here are few other centers that my students have loved!
Listening Center
I have always used poetry as my shared reading material. Once we have practiced this poem for the week, we turn it into a listening center activity. The students can scan the QR code and the video will play on their device.
You can check out a little peek at the video sing-along
