Literacy Center Activities for Kindergarten

• Chilly Word Families – Students will sort the cards into short i word families and color the word family chunk on the response worksheet.  This is perfect for isolating letter sounds and spelling CVC words.
• Word Family Puzzles – In this center, students will solve the word puzzle and color the word family puzzle.  This is perfect for isolating beginning, middle and ending letter sounds and spelling CVC words.
• Fishing for Digraphs – In this penguin themed literacy center, students will spin the spinner and write the word from the same word family. This is perfect for practice with digraph sounds and spelling.
• Penguin’s Beginning Sounds – Students will say the first sound of the picture and then write the word on their response worksheet.  This is perfect practice for identifying initial sounds.
• Snowboard Endings – This is a snow themed activity in which students will say the word and listen for the ending sound. Students will write the word and draw a picture on their response worksheet. This is perfect for identifying ending sounds.
• Snow Day Sight Words – This is a winter themed sight word center activity.  Students will spin the spinner and write the words.  This is editable so you can add your own high frequency words.
• December Sentences –  Students have two different sets of matching activities.  These sentences feature snow day activities. There are TWO weeks worth of sentence work.

Math Center Activities for Kindergarten

• Chilly Numbers – In this center, students will start at the snowflake and trace the numeral.  Students will then count the snowflakes on the center card and write the numeral again.  Numbers 1 – 20 are included in this math center activity.
• Tied Up in String –  Students will count the dots in the tens frame on the wrapped gift.  Students will write the matching number on the response page, then color the tens frame to match. Numbers 1 – 20 are included.
• Evergreen Base 10 – Students will count the base ten blocks and then write the number on the themed response sheet. This is perfect to understand the relationship between quantities and numbers.
• Baking up Make 10 – Students will count the gingerbread men in the tens frame and decide how many more they need to make ten. Then students will record the equation on the gingerbread man math response sheet.
• Many Mittens – Students will say the numbers on the mittens in order and then write them in order on the math response sheet. This is perfect practice for counting to 100 by 1s and 10s.
• Winter Addition – Students will count the different winter items and write an addition equation and the sum on the math response sheet.
• Fa-la-la-la-la Subtraction – Students will count the Christmas items and subtract the items with an X on them. Students will then write a subtraction equation and the difference on the math response sheet.
